چکیده

We discuss accretion and outflow properties of three very low-mass young stellar objects based on broad-band mid-resolution X-Shooter/VLT spectra. Our targets (FUTauA, 2M1207-39, and Par-Lup3-4) have spectral types between M5 and M8, ages between 1Myr and ∼ 10Myr, and are known to be accreting from previous studies. The final objective of our project is the determination of mass outflow to accretion rate for objects near or within the substellar regime as a probe for the TTauri phase of brown dwarfs and the investigation of variability in the accretion and outflow processes.

Uv Excess Measures of Accretion onto Young Very Low-mass Stars and Brown Dwarfs

Low-resolution spectra from 3000–9000 Å of young low-mass stars and brown dwarfs were obtained with LRIS on Keck I. The excess UV and optical emission arising in the Balmer and Paschen continua yields mass accretion rates ranging from 2×10 to 10 M⊙ yr . These results are compared with HST/STIS spectra of roughly solar-mass accretors with accretion rates that range from 2× 10 to 5 × 10 M⊙ yr . T...

Evidence for a T Tauri Phase in Young Brown Dwarfs

As part of a multi-faceted program to investigate the origin and early evolution of sub-stellar objects, we present high-resolution Keck optical spectra of 14 very low mass sources in the IC 348 young cluster and the Taurus star-forming cloud. All of our targets, which span a range of spectral types from M5 to M8, exhibit moderate to very strong Hα emission. In half of the IC 348 objects, the H...

Using the largest high-resolution spectroscopic sample to date of young, very low mass stars and brown dwarfs, we investigate disk accretion in objects ranging from just above the hydrogen-burning limit all the way to nearly planetary masses. Our 82 targets span spectral types from M5 to M9.5, or masses from 0.15 M⊙ down to about 15 Jupiters. They are confirmed members of the ρ Ophiuchus, Tauru...

Measuring tiny mass accretion rates onto young brown dwarfs

We present low-resolution Keck I/LRIS spectra spanning from 3200–9000 Å of nine young brown dwarfs and three low-mass stars in the TW Hya Association and in Upper Sco. The optical spectral types of the brown dwarfs range from M5.5-M8.75, though two have near-IR spectral types of early L-dwarfs. We report new accretion rates derived from excess Balmer continuum emission for the low-mass stars TW...

Variable accretion and outflow in young brown dwarfs

We report on the first dedicated monitoring campaign of spectroscopic variability in young brown dwarfs. High-resolution optical spectra of six targets in nearby star-forming regions were obtained over 11 nights between 2005 JanuaryMarch on the Magellan 6.5m telescope. We find significant variability in Hα and a number of other emission lines related to accretion and outflow processes on a vari...
